Catchigami FAQ

What is a catchigami?
A catchigami is a receiving line from one NFL game, catches, yards, and touchdowns, that no player had put up in any earlier game since 1999. Every game either repeats a line some player already had in that span or produces a new one, and the new ones are the catchigamis.
Where does the name catchigami come from?
It borrows from scorigami, Jon Bois's term for an NFL final score that has never happened before; catchigami applies the same idea to one player's receiving line in one game.
What is the most common receiving line?
1 catch for 6 yards and no touchdowns, which has happened 2,308 times.
What counts as a receiving line?
Any regular-season or playoff game where a player had at least one catch, at any position. Negative yards count. Yards gained on a lateral without a catch do not.
What if two players post the same new line at the same time?
Both get credit. When two players reach the same new receiving line in games that kicked off at the same time, each is marked as a shared first.
Why does the catchigami count start in 2000?
The records start with the 1999 season, so every line that happened in 1999 was new by default. Those are marked first seen in 1999, and new lines count from 2000 on.
How often is this updated?
After every game day, once the NFL's player stats are posted. Stat corrections replace the old numbers on the next update.

How we count 102,080 games with a catch

Every regular-season and playoff game since 1999 counts, from the nflverse weekly player stats. A game counts when the player had at least one catch, at any position; yards gained on a lateral without one do not, and negative yards do. Games are ordered by kickoff time, so the first player to post a line gets the credit, and players whose games kicked off at the same time share it. 1999 is the first season in the records, so a line first seen that year is marked first seen in 1999, not counted as a catchigami. Teams carry their current names, so the Oakland Raiders count as Las Vegas and the San Diego Chargers as Los Angeles. The name follows scorigami, a term Jon Bois coined in 2014; his 2016 video explains the idea.
